A Welcome from our President
Welcome to the Rotary Club of Brackley web site. If you have arrived here by mistake please take a moment to find out who we are and what we do, I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised! If you are here by design I hope that you find what you are looking for, if not please contact me ( 07789986459 or chris.watts@brackleyrotary.org.uk) and I will do all that I can to help you.
It is a real pleasure and privilege to serve as President of this Club. I am following in the footsteps of 35 predecessors who have led the Club to some great achievements over the years. A great deal of good has been done at a local, national and international level supporting small and large charities alike.
There is a real need and want within our current membership to ‘get out there’ and do what is needed. There is much to be done and we want to do our bit so below I have highlighted some of the projects and events we will be involved in over the next year.
On the global stage we will be raising awareness and funds locally to help the international effort to finally eradicate the terrible disease polio through the ‘End Polio Now’ campaign that is being supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. You can learn more at http://www.rotary.org/en/serviceAndFellowship/Polio/Pages/ridefault.aspx.
A few years ago my mother was struck down by cancer and as a family we were very grateful for the support that MacMillan Nurses gave her and the family. It is with gratitude that in return I am pleased to assist in our District Governor’s efforts to support them. To learn more about this wonderful organisation please visit their website: http://www.macmillan.org.uk/.
At a local level I am pleased that we will continue to support the local Alzheimer’s group and assist Magdalen College School and Chenderit School with practice job interviews. The Club will, through the year be arranging and running Youth competitions such as Young Chef and Youth Speaks. For more information on these events please revisit the website or contact me to register an interest.
We are continually looking to recruit new members for the Club; however we do recognise that not everyone can make a formal commitment and we are therefore also interested in encouraging like minded people who would be willing to volunteer their services when needed at fund raising events. If you are interested in learning more about membership or joining the family and friends of Rotary please do contact me by phone or email.
You will see have seen us out and about at town events such as the Brackley Community Carnival, The Grand Prix Big Screen at the Leisure Centre and running tombola stalls at the Farmers Market. We will often have on display a Shelter Box Tent for which we have ongoing collections. To learn more please visit http://www.shelterbox.org/.
I look forward to serving the Club and the community over the coming year. Thank you for the virtual visit and I hope that we will soon be able to meet in person.
Chris Watts
