Rotary in Brackley:
The heart of Brackley Rotary is the weekly club meeting - normally on a Thursday evening in Brackley when there is a two-course dinner and guest speaker, often on a charitable or vocational subject.  Members attend to the best of their ability – there’s no attendance requirement.  Social events are also organised. However, Rotary is primarily about service to others…

Our support for the local community is not primarily financial. For example, we have many opportuniies for the younger generation having organised numerous inter-school competitions, such as our Youth Speaks public speaking competitions, in addition to annual mock job interviews at both Magdalen College School and Chenderit School – hundreds of interviews every year. We also assist other fundraising organisations, such as arranging volunteers to man Brackley Beer Festival organised by Brackley Round Table.

Brackley Rotary raises money for overseas projects. These projects are often supervised by overseas Rotary clubs, providing assurance on how money is spent.  One example is our provision of educational items and work skills boxes to the struggling Roma community in Romania where we linked with the Rotary Club of Brasov. Currently we are supporting the Brackley based ‘Friends of Mithuluni Village’ seeking to provide a local water supply for an African village.

Funds are raised in various ways, whether by organising events, street collections or something more adventurous… Three of our members and two guest riders undertook a sponsored bike ride from London to Paris raising over £3,000 for charitable causes. More recently, club member Irene Childerley undertook a sponsored climb of Mount Kilimanjaro, raising £1,100.
